The question of whether we will offer our natures—our wills—to God—determines whether we participate in His divine life or remain apart from it. Our offering of ourselves, even with our flaws, is what allows us to become truly His, transforming our fleeting, natural patterns into eternal spiritual realities.

It's true that we have limited direct control over our temperament and the spontaneous motives that drive our actions. We can control our outward acts to some extent, but the deeper aspects of our character—our true motives and inner dispositions—are beyond our immediate will.
